On 25 November 2020, the German Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier presented the 250,000 euro Future Award, a renowned prize for breakthrough research innovations in science and technology. 

Scientists from the companies "Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH", "TRUMPF Lasersystems for Semiconductors Manufacturing GmbH" and the "Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering" have revolutionised chip production with their development, EUV lithography. This technology can be used to produce high-performance microchips that are required for very data-intensive applications such as smart homes, high-performance robots or autonomous driving.
